FAQ
How do you make the balms?
All the products are handmade by me (Ally Marsh) at our property on the Mornington Peninsula in a purpose-built lab. The products are handcrafted from scratch in small batches in order to optimise the freshness and potency of the product.
I grow many medicinal herbs including chickweed, Lavender, Chamomile, Echinacea, Calendula, Aloe Vera, Comfrey, Borage, Basil, Rosemary, Mint and more. These beautiful herbs are then hand harvested at the optimal time, infused (hot or cold infusion) and used (together with other ingredients that are sourced as locally as possible) to make the Be Better Balms range of Herbal Balms.
Video above - At Be Better Balms we follow the SEED TO SKIN process - we harvest the lavender buds, dry them for a few weeks, then we infuse the lavender in sweet almond oil for 8 weeks. This video shows how we start the infusion process. This is what it’s all about here at Be Better Balms - Slow process, no rush, using Real ingredients to nourish and heal your skin
How do you preserve the balms?
All our balms contain antioxidants that are naturally present in the oils and butters we use. We also use Natural Vitamin E to slow down the process of oxidation.
How long will my balm last?
All our balms are good for 12 months after you open the packaging. However, some of the ingredients including Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter and Candelilla wax are temperature sensitive so we recommend storing the balms away from direct sunlight and below 25 degrees. The balms might begin to melt in warm weather. If that happens, simply put the balm in the fridge and it should re-set. The balm might also become grainy due to temperature variations. This is mainly due to the fatty acids in the butters. The balm will still melt in contact with the skin. You can re-heat the balm in a double boiler and place in the fridge to re-set. Whether the balm melts or becomes grainy - the balms are perfectly safe and effective to use.
My balm has a slightly different colour and/or fragrance this time, why?
As we use fresh herbs from our garden to prepare the balms, different batches might vary slightly in colour and fragrance due to seasonal changes.
Do you want to wholesale Be Better Balms?
Yes! Please email us at info@bebetterbalms.com.au for a price list.
How long will it take for my order to arrive?
We prefer to prepare small batches of Be Better Balms to optimise freshness and potency. Therefore, orders may take up to 14 days, but usually you can expect your delivery within 3-5 business days in Metro Australia.
Is it safe to use Be Better Balms on sensitive skin?
The dilution of essential oils is approximately 2%, and 1% for our baby range, which is within the safe range. However, we always recommend doing a test patch to check - put a small dab of the balm on the inside of your arm and cover it overnight – if there is no redness or other signs of irritation it should be safe to use. If irritation does occur, discontinue use.
Allergies from natural products can still happen!
Are Be Better Balms safe for children & during pregnancy?
The pregnancy Balm and the Bub Balm are specifically formulated for mums & bubs. The other balms are suitable for children over 2 years old. If you are pregnant, please consult your doctor before using the other balms in our range.
